CooperVision ANZ Plastic Neutrality Initiative Earns Highly Commended Recognition at the 2022 Prime Awards

SYDNEY, Australia., November 10, 2022——In recognition of its continued leadership in Sustainability, CooperVision Australia and New Zealand received a 'Highly Commended' Award at the 2022 Prime Awards for their plastic neutrality initiative.

The Prime Awards recognise and celebrate excellence across 20 categories within healthcare communications and the Australian pharmaceutical and life sciences industry.

CooperVision Australia and New Zealand this year launched the plastic neutrality initiative and breakthrough partnership with Plastic Bank, a social enterprise that builds ethical recycling ecosystems in coastal communities, making their range of one-day contact lenses plastic neutral, providing an easy way for customers and patients to create positive change.

For every box of one-day lenses distributed, CooperVision purchases credits that fund the collection and recycling of ocean-bound plastic, equal to the weight of the plastic used in its one-day contact lenses. Plastic Bank collectors in coastal communities receive a premium for the plastic collected, helping provide necessities such as groceries and insurance. In 2022 CooperVision set a global goal to prevent the equivalent of 90 million plastic bottles from reaching the world's oceans.

This recognition reflects only a portion of the company's environmental initiatives focused on saving water and conserving energy; reducing, reusing, and recycling resources; and empowering people within the company and the communities in which it operates.

The company is continuously working to minimise environmental impact and operate more sustainably around the globe as part of broader efforts across CooperCompanies to contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.
